The navigation of mobile robots in indoor environments has been well studied and saturated. The components and sensor selection for such indoor navigation systems are arguably mature. However, for navigation in complex and unstructured outdoor environments, few topics remain open for further contributions and development. In this talk, we take a look at challenges and proposed systems in order to improve and standardize robot navigation in unstructured outdoor environments.
